Baljer & Zembrod is a leading international supplier of innovative woodworking machinery for the log yard in sawmills, as well as electric-powered handling equipment for the timber and recycling industries.
Our headquarter with R&D, design, production and sales is situated in the south of Germany. The product portfolio comprises stationary heavy-duty cranes, track-mounted sorting carriages and sorting plants, debarking machines, butt-reducers and cross-cutting plants. We design and produce all machines in-house and sell them worldwide – either directly or via distribution partners. With a high level of technical competence, Baljer & Zembrod accompanies their customers' projects from the project planning phase to the finished plant. In addition, we also guarantee the necessary service.
Baljer & Zembrod offers support from the planning to the production of future-oriented, high-end, and technically sophisticated machines, which contribute to increasing the profitability of your business!

Products & Services
Baljer & Zembrod is a leading international supplier of innovative woodworking machinery for the log yard in sawmills. The product range comprises electric driven rail-guided transferral carriages, debarkers, reducers and heavy-duty cranes. Each machine is designed and manufactured to customer specifications. This allows us to respond perfectly to individual requirements.
With a high level of technical competence, we accompany our customers' projects from the project planning phase to the finished plant. In addition, we also guarantee the necessary service worldwide.
Butt End Reducers
Block irregularities such as roots, branch stumps and bumps are milled off in a single operation and the saw blocks are reduced to a specific diameter. If there are no longer any outgrowths on the blocks (bulges, branch stumps, root starts), the material flow becomes more even and there are hardly any disruptions in further processing, such as rind chipping. The round reduction of the saw blocks is a prerequisite for the fully automatic operation of a chipper line and its ancillary machines, for example. In addition, an upstream root reducer relieves the debarking machine.
WRP-STAR – the Rolls Royce of the reducers:
With the WRP-STAR, cycle times can be reduced by approximately 30%. Round timber sections are more gently transported through the system using the rotating star prism, protecting the logs from damage and the machine from hard knocks. Gaps between logs can be significantly reduced, with proven log yard performance increases of around 7%.
Baljer & Zembrod is the market leader in the reducer segment in Europe with almost 20 different models ranging from the low-cost WRP-SSB stand-alone unit to the fastest high-performance reducer in the log yard, the WRP-STAR.
Round Wood Sorting and Transporting Carriage (RSTW and RUW)
The electrically-driven round wood sorting and transporting carriage is the optimal technical solution for mid-sized log yards working with long wood. A single operator can measure, cut and sort from inside the same cabin.
The main goal is to increase yield. One fully computer-powered dimension and measuring system collects all relevant data for dividing the timber, resulting in lower operating costs than with a comparable machine using a conventional diesel engine.
In combination with customised additional equipment, such as conveyors, reducers and debarking machines, the mechanisation of the entire log yard can be implemented individually according to customer requirements from a single source.
Transferral with RUW:
For transferral only (without measuring and dividing) the transferral carriage RUW is the perfect solution for a fast handling of round wood in the sawmill. This electrically-driven carriage rides on rails and lets you transfer and sort round wood with lower energy and maintenance costs than with conventional diesel-powered units. In addition, the operator can fully concentrate on the handling since the route is predetermined by the rails, saving time and operating costs.
For the one-shift-work the possible handling capacity realized by this round wood handling car amounts now up to 200,000 m3 solid measure of timber per year.
Baljer & Zembrod is the originator of the RSTW (first model in 1965) and RUW. With more than 2,000 delivered machines, we remain the market leader in this category.
Debarkers (Rotor and Cutting Head)
Rotor debarkers:
The rotor debarkers from Baljer & Zembrod are specially designed for medium-sized sawmills. The centrepiece is the rotor with 3 or 5 knife arms made of high-strength steel with screwed-on knife plates and rotor bearing via a large-diameter roller bearing. The brazed-in carbide cutting edges ensure a long service life for the knives. Special knives for winter operation and knives with pre-cutters for short bark are also available.
All debarkers work without compressed air, i.e. all functions are performed hydraulically. The product portfolio includes various model types, starting with a minimal length of 1,60 m and diameters between 12 – 110 cm.
Cutting Head Debarkers:
Our cutting head debarkers have two major advantages: firstly, the purchase costs are lower compared to rotor debarkers and secondly, an optimum debarking result is achieved even with very crooked log sections. They are equally suitable for hardwood and softwood. The debarking head, which can be raised and lowered hydraulically, can be controlled very finely and can therefore follow the contours of the log. A hydraulically adjustable depth limiting ring on the infeed side allows the debarking head to be quickly adjusted to different bark thicknesses. The system is suitable for logs with a length of 2.00 - 8.00 m and a diameter of 20 - 120 cm (depending on the version).
Combinations with the butt end reducer are also possible.
Mechanised Stationary Logyard
Increase the added value of your sawmill with the help of our customized system in your log yard.
- The goal: one operator in the log yard
- The focus: special design for cost-effectiveness for medium-sized companies
- The advantage: all the technology from one manufacturer
Unlike other manufacturers, Baljer & Zembrod develops and manufactures the various machines for a stationary log yard in its own factory in South Germany. This gives you the advantage that all machines are developed and manufactured to the same high quality standards.
Portal Cranes
The portal crane rounds off the product range of electric driven rail cars. In the same way as the round wood sorting and transporting carriages RSTW and RUW, the portal crane is also developed for fast handling of round wood.
The crane can drive crosswise on the portal for a reach of more than 58 m. Because it’s powered electrically instead of by diesel, energy and maintenance costs are significantly reduced. In addition, the operator can fully concentrate on the handling, since the route is predetermined by the rails, which saves time and thus operating costs.
